Hoopla, Readers!
So yeah, last night I had my first ever on-air( ...well, "cyber-air", at least) interview with Topless Roboteer and fellow Taoist Gene Hoyle for his Blogtalkradio podcast: Nerd Nation.
I communicat somewhat less smoothly by voice than by the written or typed word...every other sound out of my mouth was "um" :P But still, my voice, which I've always despised, actually sounded a lot better than I was expecting. All in all, it was a great experience, and hopefully will lead to an increase in my deranged readership...and maybe get me closer to the promised land of gainful employment in the internet writing industry.
Anyhoo, here it be:
Arright then, apparently Blogger's being a douche and not letting me embed the player!
Here's a link, then: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/nerdnation/2011/05/29/nerd-nation-may-28th-2011
Now, I've also been skulking about Facebook looking up my old Rocky Horror friends, as previously mentioned. Not long after posting that group shot with my 16 year old, dead-eyed head in the center, some of my old compatriots dusted off some photos from the 90s, scanned them, and posted them.
Here are a few of my favorites, and a little accompanying witty commentary, after the jump (fair warning: If you never wanted to know how I look in fishnet stockings, you might wish to reconsider going any furtherXD)
Radio Free Scoot
That's me in '96...at 19, in full Criminologist regalia and a terrible haircut. The young lady's name is Shannon. I'm afraid I don't know her last name. We met at my first and only RHPS convention in Milwaukee. Had a big crush on her, but she lived too far away (says the guy with an online relationship with a girl in South Carolina!).
Here's a better version of the shot I posted earlier. I'm much more visible, but stil staring like the camera is draining my will to live.
This one's a few years later. The cast has grown some. Again, only my head is visible (far right, middle) But at least I'm showing some personality! :D
This is one of my favorites. This is probably the biggest the cast ever got. I'm in the middle at the very top. That's Gene Chiovari next to me as Frank--he's an awesome guy and true Rocky Horror royalty.
Another pic from the same shoot. I'm right in front, plain as day, but for some reason I did my best to ruin the shot by trying to stick my tongue out with a cigarette holder in my mouth. God, do I look like a tool.
Everyone else looks awesome...Good job, guys!
As advertised, there's your Scoot in semi-drag at 17. I'll bet you were expecting something more risque given my warning...wish I could accomodate you, but this is all I got. To my left is my old high school friend Dawn, to the right: Fellow cast member Melissa. Below: Chantilly....No one remembers a damn thing about her, and it's suspected that she kinda shoehorned herself into this pic (If you're reading this, I apologize for whatever I've forgottenXD)
There's Melissa again (she dug up these pics, so thank her ;) ) Next to her is the magnificence that was Ginger! If you look close at my face, you'll see me blushing: That was her doing. Ginger was half the reason I joined the cast: I never asked her out--she was seing the aforementioned Gene, but I had a kind of reverential awe for her...I guess you had to be there.
Oh, btw, in case certain questions sprung to mind due to seeing me in the company of so many attractive young women, I must admit that I never had the honor of being romantically entangled with any of them (and not for lack of trying, either!)
That was the story of my love life in my teens and twenties: I was a man starving to death at a banquet!
Hope you enjoyed my reminiscing, and for those of you who already saw all these on Facebook: I hope my witticisms and anecdotes were enough to keep your attention :)
Hello Peoples!
This is Debbie Mnemonic--she's a Ninja! :)
Seriously, she's the new TTOS contributor who composed the thoroughly entertaining article below. Oh, and just in case any one's confused--that's not an actual picture of her. I'll wait until she feels comfortable enough with you folks to grace you with her image.
Deb is unique among my contributors: She actually knows me in the Physical World!
Yep! She can confirm that Scooter does indeed exist!
In fact, she actually knew me long before Scooter came to be, back in the Dark Ages when I was no more than a mild mannered, unassuming sci-fi geek and occasional LARPer...Before I discovered the joys of the Internet and Scooter Arteides was born.
So, you folks have the unique opportunity, if you're at all curious, to find out what I'm like IRL from a qualified source...Lucky You!
Anyway, I'm sure Debbie will make a fine crewmember aboard my virtual ship of fools. As you can see in the piece below, she's interested in focusing on the most awesomely bad music and video of that miserable decade known as the 1990s, but I'm sure she'll have other material to share.
Welcome aboard, Deb! May Crom have mercy on your soul!

I'm so embarrassed that I missed this, but Twitter has just reminded me that, according to the movie Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Skynet became self-aware almost two hours ago (April 19, 2011 8:11 PM EDT).
The nukes are due to arrive Thursday...That's the bad news.
However...

Welcome to my newest feature soon to be forgotten once I'm distracted by something shiny and/or boobs.
NPNN! Not Particularly Nerdy News!
See folks, whether I really intended it or not: This is a Nerd Blog. I'm a Nerd, so I write about what I know and what I like--Most of my readers are Nerds, so I write about things I hope will interest them.
But sometimes things of a less than nerdy nature will capture my interest and practically beg me to blog about them. Thus: NPNN!
Tonight's story: You folks seen this?
This is a J Crew ad that was sent in a mailer to thousands of consumers. Now, if you're a rational person, you're probably wondering not only what it's doing on my little Nerd Blog, but why it's ANYWHERE but in the J Crew ad it was made for.
If, on the other hand, you work for CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, or any of the major network news affiliates, then you see a vital debate on either a potential threat to the sexual identity of our children (WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!) OR, an exploration of the growing phenomenon of juvenile transvestitism--depending on the slant of the outlet you work for.
Shut up...Seriously--newspeople everywhere: Just. Shut. The. Fuck. Up! Please!
If you must know the details, here's a link to an article in the Daily Mail...Somehow I feel better linking to a non-American news source in this case.
See, I'm not here to pick a side and join the debate--I'm here to say that anybody who would consider this a subject WORTHY of debate is fucked in the head: There are no winners in such an argument, only two different flavors of losers.
Imagine someone trying to start a debate on whether water is wet. There are only two possible responses: Either you're a rational person who knows water is fucking wet, or you're a delusional psychotic. So if you enter the debate: You're either mentally disturbed...or worse--the kind of person who would attempt to ARGUE with the mentally disturbed!
Yeeeah...that oughtta just about do it: I don't wanna give this non-issue any more press than necessary.
Tune in next time to NPNN--whenever I'm bored and there isn't anything sufficiently geeky to talk about.
Good Night, And Have A Pleasant Tomorrow.

"SORRY! CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, PLEASE COME AGAIN!" (The American Midwest)
Holy Shitwaffles, folks!!
That's the view from out my front door--It was once an apartment complex parking lot! (and there's nothing wrong with the pic--it was taken through a window screen...no way in FUCK I'm actually going out there!)
I know I have readers from all across the globe, and I know for some of you more fortunate readers, a "cold" day bottoms out around 50 degrees Fahrenheit, and the sight of a SINGLE flake of snow sends the community into a panic, closes every school for miles, and causes everyone to hide, terrified in their homes until it's scientifically determined that the "snowflake" was merely a piece of airbourne dandruff.
I'd like to cordially invite such individuals to take a nice, wet bite out of my frostbitten Midwestern ass!
FUCK YOU--FUCK YOU IN THE EAR!
22 goddamn inches! The THIRD largest single snowfall in the history of the Chicagoland area...CHRIST'S HAIRY NUTSACK!!!!
That's my roommate's car. Three fucking guesses if HE'S going to work today! (moot point, anyway, as his work closed today--along with most of the goddamn city!)
Oh, and the fun's not over for us in Flyover Country! For as we struggle to dig ourselves out of motherfucking Hoth, we get the news that tonight we should expect lows of 20 DEGREES BELOW FUCKING ZERO!!!!
I'm so moving :(
Scooty The Snowman

Hello my Children. Den Mother Colleen here. I'm very perplexed by my latest entry of Weird News from the Interwebs. As many know, Syfy has taken to putting things on the network that are very much un-Scifi...particularly wrestling... Apparently sometime this year, a cooking show will appear. Anyway, I'm a fan of Bravo network's Top Chef series. This year they are doing Top Chef All Stars, where Runner-ups from previous seasons attempt for the top prize again. My favorite contestant from Season 2 of Top Chef, Marcel Vigneron, apparently has been slated for SyFy.
From his Bravo Bio: "Marcel considers himself to be first and foremost a “cook.” He previously worked as a Sous Chef at The Bazaar by Jose Andres, as a Master Cook at Joel Robuchon, and as a line cook for Michael Mina at Aqua before becoming an Executive Chef of his own kitchen in Los Angeles. He also has his own TV series titled “Marcel’s Quantum Kitchen” which is slated to premiere on Syfy in 2011."
What. The. Fuck? I mean I totally love the idea of this dude having his own show... but one would think he would be on, oh I don't know, THE FOOD NETWORK?!?! WHOSE RESPONSIBLE THIS???????
Syfy -pandering to all demographics!
Greetings, Turkey-Stuffed Ingrates My Friends!
So, not too many of you folks showed up to watch MST3K's Night of the Blood Beast (Turkey Day Edition) with me last night...That's OK....I see how it is....
Alright, I was gonna drag that weak jest out for awhile, but fuck it--it ain't that funny and I'm not in the least mad. It's totally cool--I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and I'm thankful for all my marvelous contributors and discerning readers. Mazel Tov!
Right, then, as I said yesterday, since Rob is taking a well-deserved Turkey Day hiatus, TTOS will be filling the Fanfic void, soon as Abraxas gets here...
I also just saw something definitely nerd-newsworthy on Yahoo, and since Mr. Bricken isn't there for me to send it to (and Colleen hasn't beaten me to it) I see it as my responsibility, as a proud member of the made-up, self-appointed Nerd Press to report it to the peoples:
Now I've never played a Guitar Hero game and have no serious plans to do so in the future: But this story caught my attention as it appealed to my long-running distaste for Axl Rose-- the sweaty, obnoxious, wife-smacking mediocre-at-best lead singer of Guns 'N Roses.
The short version is Mr. Rose is suing Activision, makers of GH, to the tune of 20 million clams. Why? Because apparently he had an agreement with Activision that stated he would only allow them to use his song "Welcome To The Jungle" on GH3 if they promised to feature no songs by Velvet Revolver, current employers of the infinitely more talented guitarist who carried Rose for years: Slash.
It seems, for reasons that I've yet to care enough to uncover, that the two are now blood enemies.
Well, Activision not only features tunes by Slash and his new bandmates on GH3, they put him on the box cover, made him unofficial spokesman for the game, and even made him a playable Avatar in the game.
Axl was not pleased.
Now, why he's waited all this time to file this suit (GH3 was released three years ago!) is anyone's guess: My completely biased, unproffesional, subjesctive assessment is that Mr. Rose is a douchenozzle who hates joy and spits on all that is talented and good--anybody got any other ideas?
I'm not usually one to encourage judging a book by it's cover...But sometimes the cover tells you an awful lot about what's in that book. I'ma show you pics of the two men in question--you tell me which one's the douche:
Here's Axl...
(shudder)
Now here's Slash...
I'd say the
And I didn't just pick the above image of Slash because he happened to be posing with his smokin' hot wife, Perla Hudson (look around you--you really think I need an excuse to post pics of hot women?). I'm just of the opinion that her presence helps illustrate my point that Slash rocks your face off, and Axl is a bitter, cornrowed douche.
Don't you all feel informed? ;)

Watch where you're going Suzie, or you'll be sued!
Sooo....has anyone here ever wanted to sue a FOUR YEAR OLD??? Apparently you can! Isn't that great?!?!?
Hello my children...Lady Colleen La Silk is here with the Weird News Update...so as indicated by the title there was a time traveler caught on film in the 1920's. Here's the link.
I wonder if the chick on the cell knows THIS guy!As well as being a talented stand-up, he was also a frequent Howard Strern Show guest, a cast member of Lewis Black's brilliant, yet unappreciated Root of All Evil, a regular on the Comedy Central Celebrity Roasts, and a judge on Last Comic Standing.
As a huge stand-up fan, I'd been following Mr. Giraldo's career for the last few years. He wasn't the type who was likely to branch out into sitcoms and feature films, but as far as I'm concerned, that just means that his art remained pure and sharp(if you ever saw Bob Saget or Roseanne do stand-up before they got tv shows, then you know what I'm talking about).
Celebrity or not, he was a talented writer and performer, and he has left us far too soon.
Here he is doing what he did best at the recent Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff:
He will be greatly missed.

FROM YAHOO! SPORTS:
India will use monkey security force for Commonwealth Games
"When the international sporting event begins next week in New Delhi, organizers will deploy 38 trained langur monkeys to patrol the grounds in an attempt to scare away smaller, stray primates that can roam the streets of Delhi."
"The langurs, which are giant, gray monkeys with black faces, will be on a leash and accompanied by a trainer. They'll be positioned outside various venues and tasked with keeping wild monkeys from causing havoc in and around the Games."
India moves another step closer to wresting the International WTF Cup away from Japan.
Personally, I love the fact they're using the monkeys to protect visitors from other monkeys (how long before they come to their senses, team up with the rogue monkeys, and stage a coup d'etat?)
And since I'm a boorish American smartass who likes to poke fun at foreign countries, I've enlisted the aid of cheezburger.com and created a salute to New Delhi's innovative security procedures:
